Shark Island Challenge 2026 Trials are open! Event Overview
The Shark Island Challenge Trials offer athletes a chance to earn a spot in the main event, testing their skills in world-class waves at an iconic break. This high-stakes competition is a proving ground for elite bodyboarders, demanding skill, courage, and commitment. Event Window : 17 - 19 April 2026 Primary locations: The Island and The Point (conditions permitting) Back up locations: Sandshoes, Wanda, Elouera, Cronulla, Cost: $250 + GST

 Age Divisions • Open Men • Open Women • The top 2 competitors from each division advance to the main event.
 Format • Heat Size: 4 surfers max. • Heat Duration: 20 minutes. • Seeding: Athletes will be randomly placed in the opening round. • Progression: If the schedule allows, a second-chance elimination round will be included.Straight knockout with 50% progression. • Scoring: The best two waves will count towards the surfer’s final heat score. • Priority: At the discretion of the Priority Judge Heat Draw and Schedule • The heat draw and schedule will be available two days before your event at SNSW Live Heats unless advised otherwise. • Note: Heat draws and schedules are subject to change* • Location will be confirmed on the morning of the event via SNSW socials Conditions • Refunds: No refunds will be issued within 14 days of the event. With Friday 4th July penmcilled in as the current date with the most promise, as orange alert has been issued by the team, in anticipation of this juicy up & coming East Coast Low delivering the coveted East swell that we are all cryng out for. In the heart of the Australia Sydney Basin’s southern beaches emerges a rocky island of mortal consequence – Shark Island. A battleground where the fearless embrace the ferocious nature of its shallow waters, leaving them licking their wounds and returning for more. The Shark Island Challenge (SIC), Cronulla’s only truly international surfing event, had its inception in 1997 (winner was Matt Percy), and left a mark on the global bodyboarding stage, attracting international talents to challenge local heroes since then. The SIC competition runs uniquely as a specialty event with a total of 24 bodyboarders – 20 athletes are invited from all the corners of the globe, including 4 who call the break their own, the local crew.
